Purpose and objectives

The purpose of the Innovation Consortiunm QbD is to combine advanced sensor technology with multivariate data analysis and use this as the key in achieving a steep learning curve in these industries on Quality by Design and PAT. This core of the consortium will accelerate the industrial partners’ implementation of PAT through higher levels of knowledge and a shorter development time.

QbD represents a giant leap forward in industrial quality control by introducing real-time process monitoring through fingerprinting of complex process streams using spectroscopic sensors. The objectives of QbD are:

  • To demonstrate that novel spectroscopic, image based and opto-chemical sensors in combination with appropriate information technology can be used for monitoring, controlling and optimizing food & pharmaceutical processes with respect to yield, quality, safety and eventually consumer satisfaction;
  • Taking today’s state-of-the-art single point process monitoring forward by developing integrated sensor and information technology that takes into account several process steps;
  • To develop the necessary information streaming and data integration technological know-how to analyze not only multivariate but also mega-variate data structures from multiple real-time process measurement points and to be able to select information critical points with respect to predefined critical quality attributes in a given industrial process.
